Introduction

This training manual compliments the actual MTCNA Training course, however this book does not include any of the over 30 labs that are conducted over the three days of an MTCNA course. This manual was designed primarily as a student aid to the course and thus provides the free training manual handed out to students on every MTCNA course.

The MikroTik Certified Network Associate (MTCNA) training course is the first and an introductory course aimed at those students wishing to learn more about utilising RouterOS. It is for those who already have an understanding of basic Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking but are wishing to understand more about MikroTik’s RouterOS Operating System which has been designed for their low cost hardware called RouterBOARD and their virtual appliances called the CHR (Cloud Hosted Router). The MTNCA will provide a good grounding for using RouterOS correctly and teach best practices of operating MikroTik equipment in the home or an Enterprise or Corporate based network.

About the Author

After approximately 20 years working for the Government and having worked on various radio related projects from DC to light, from building bespoke custom transmitters and receivers to later on moving onto finding illicit transmitter locations using radio direction finding, like many civil servants of the time, he was made redundant and entered the commercial world, providing consultancy and technical support.

With his love of computers, wireless and data networking, he teamed up with a small local IT company as their Technical Director specialising in providing technical support to local Primary Schools. 10 years later, Ron felt it was time to move on. The company that he helped start with just two other teachers was now with 150 employees and enjoying a million pound a year turnover. 

It was while working in that company with so many other teachers, that he started providing in-house training and realised he had a love of teaching. The next work opportunity was another natural progression, this time as a Technical Trainer with Multithread Consultants.

Having gained qualifications with HP, Microsoft, Ruckus, Meru, MikroTik and Ubiquiti, he has now been teaching his extensive knowledge of wireless and networking to many hundreds of students from around the world.

This book is his latest development and it is hoped that the knowledge learnt between these pages will expand your knowledge and make your life that little bit easier in the world of MikroTik RouterOS.
